GREAT SET

Comments about Bachmann G Scale Pioneer Train Set (Santa Fe) : 90055:

I purchased this set 2 years ago, and it is still running perfectly, even though I didn't lubricate it, like you should. You should know that this set is very large, the locomotive is 14 inches long, the tender is 12 inches long, the reefer (orange car) is 14 inches long, and the caboose is 10 inches long. The locomotive is 7 inches tall. Like all proffessional model trains, it works on electricity. You just simply plug the power pack into a normal wall outlet and you're ready to roll. This set also features steamd synchronized chuffing sound, which works well. The chuffing sound requires one battery in order to work. However, there is no whistle or bell sound. It also goes extremely fast. It may even feel like you're controlling a real train, with the sound, the size, and the speed combined. You can change speed too, of course. There are about 20 speed steps, from very slow to very fast. The chuffing sound goes faster according to how fast your train is moving. There is also a big loop of track, with 12 curved tracks, and 2 straight tracks. Each piece of track is about 12 inches long. Overall, I think this set is perfect for many jobs, from making Christmas much more exciting by putting it under the Christmas tree, to expanding a large layout if you already have one. If you like the paint scheme, please note that the locomotive, tender, and caboose are not available for separate sale. However, you can buy the reefer separately.

Not Very Good

Comments about Bachmann G Scale Pioneer Train Set (Santa Fe) : 90055:

I bought this train set with very being very excited, because I've always had faith in Bachmann. The set is a true beauty, and even though I have had problems with Bachmann before, it looked so good that I couldn't hold myself. When I got it, I immediately opened it and set it up. At first it worked fine, but then started derailing on perfectly flat places- not even where rails meet, sometimes, even in the middle of a rail. It didn't derail in the same place, it derailed all over the track. I was very dissapointed. I put it back in the box. In around 6 months or so, I took it out again with hopes that it wouldn't derail anymore. It still derailed. In about another half year (now), I just took it out again. So far it has been running smoothly, and there have been no derailments. I don't know what to say. Overall, I do recommend buying this set, because I know many people who have Bachmann Big Haulers train sets with absolutely no problems. I guess I just had bad luck.
